Giving Thanks on Memorial Day

Have you ever wondered what life would be like without freedom? I honestly don’t think about that often, however thanks to the U.S. armed forces, freedom is something that most of us can thankfully enjoy every day.

So, in appreciation of the men and women who have served our country, let’s all make more effort to thank those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our freedom.

There are many nice ways of showing your appreciation on Memorial Day, but here are just a few you can do:

  1. Go to your local Memorial Day Parade and show your support
  2. Put flowers on the grave stones of deceased soldiers
  3. Give a memento to the family of a soldier killed in action or do something thoughtful for them

The first two ideas aren’t very original so they don’t need much explanation. However, the last idea can certainly be expanded upon. There are lots of different things you can do depending upon when the family lost their loved one and the age of the survivor.

If the family recently lost their soldier or if the family left behind is now elderly, you could consider making some meals so they don’t have to worry about cooking. This is usually super appreciated as cooking can become difficult with a recent loss or as someone gets older. You could also consider offering your help in doing some chores around their house, like mowing their yard or cleaning out their gutters. This may not be pretty, but it can be a wonderful surprise and a much appreciated gesture.

However, if you’d prefer buying a thank you gift instead, one thing you can do is give them a quality picture frame for a photo of their military hero. This can cause a flood of unexpected tears but is a wonderful gesture that is affordable for almost everyone. There are so many different types of picture frames to choose from but here are a selection of a few of my favorites in cases like these:

But in the end, no matter what you do for a soldier’s family will be appreciated.

Thanks again to all of the families of military families as your sacrifice is very much appreciated!
